The Festival du Nouveau Cinéma (FNC), whose 49th edition will be both online and in theatres, is pleased to announce its physical events at the Imperial Cinema, and for the first time, 4 drive-in movie nights at YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport's P11 parking lot - including a MAD MAX NIGHT and THE SHINING as part of the 40th anniversary of Stanley Kubrick's film. As a reminder, at the opening of the Festival, 200 festival-goers will also be able to discover, for free, the world premiere of Sophie Dupuis' SOUTERRAIN at the Place des Festivals in the Quartier des spectacles thanks to the support of BNP Paribas.
In this very special edition, and for the first time ever, the FNC will present 4 exceptional events: cult, timeless and must-see films in a new venue, the P11 parking lot at YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport, converted into a cine-parc for the occasion. In the comfort of their car, festival-goers will be able to (re)discover the entire George Miller saga during a great MAD MAX NIGHT as intense as it will be memorable. Also on the program: THE SHINING by Stanley Kubrick and TOTAL RECALL by Paul Verhoeven, which respectively celebrate their 40th and 30th anniversaries this year, as well as the mythical paranoid anti-musical musical PINK FLOYD: THE WALL in tribute to Alan Parker, who sadly passed away last July.
The FNC will finally be back in theatres, at the Imperial Cinema from October 7 to 18, in accordance with current health standards. Attendees will be able to discover many new releases, with some great titles that stood out on the festival circuit this year: ANOTHER ROUND, a poignant tale of friendship with Mads Mikkelsen by Danish director Thomas Vinterberg and the documentary THE TRUFFLE HUNTERS by Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw, both Cannes 2020 winners and selected for the TIFF; DAYS by Taiwanese director Tsai Ming-Liang, winner of the Teddy Award at the Berlinale; THE WOMAN WHO RAN by Korean Hong Sangsoo, Silver Bear for Best Director at the last Berlin Film Festival; LUX AETERNA, Gaspar Noé's latest film with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Béatrice Dalle, in its North American premiere; and finally, THE CLOUD IN HER ROOM by Zheng Lu Xinyuan, a bold and personal debut film, winner of the Tiger Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival. In addition to the above-mentioned films, the FNC will also present several previously announced expected titles at the Imperial Cinema including :
