Clara, a dancer, struggles with anorexia. Brazilian screenwriter and filmmaker Moara Passoni draws on her own experience to offer a new perspective on a painful topic in her elliptical first feature, poignant and masterful. A hybrid documentary that weaves in archival footage and shards of fiction, Êxtase is an icy plunge into Clara’s relationship with food and her body, a visceral cinematic experience that maximizes the power of the voice-over to convey a young woman’s inner world in a way that will surely speak to others. In collaboration with the Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM)“An excellent example of how the extremely personal can hold universal insight.” Eye For Film
