ACTRESS MEGUMI KAGURAZAKA WILL BE PRESENT
The film Guilty of Romance (Koi no Tsumi, Japan, 2011) will open the Temps ø section on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at the Cinéma Impérial (Centre Sandra & Leo Kolber, Salle Lucie & André Chagnon), with actress Megumi Kagurazaka in attendance.
Quiet and docile Izumi, who is married to a bestselling novelist, is the perfect wife. However, her stifling bourgeois existence is about to be turned on its head. One day, blindly following her desires, she gives in to temptation ― and discovers the forbidden fruit of raw, uninhibited sex. With it, she discovers a fierce desire to live life to the full. At around the same time, a bizarrely mutilated body is found in one of the city’s love hotels . . . Blurring the boundaries between love and hate, cult filmmaker Sion Sono (Suicide Club) follows up on the excellent Love Exposure and Cold Fish with the final part of his perverse “hate” trilogy. A cross between Buñuel’s Belle de jour and a transgressive neo-feminist noir, the film that caused a scandal at Cannes 2011 is a psychosexual thriller like no other ― yet quirky and lyrical, mixing poetry and trash with in-your-face punk relish. A tale of ordinary cruelty in a class by itself, and a sure bet to be this year’s Japanese film-to-remember, possibly even overshadowing last year’s Confessions.
