pornos”, the name given to the avant-garde erotic films that boosted the company’s fortunes in the 1970s. This
sadly underrated masterpiece was an exercise in genre-busting. Its exploration of social survival added a layer of politics. Attention all film fans: this story of Osaka streetwalkers, a classic of modern Japanese cinema (two years before Oshima’s In the Realm of the Senses), absolutely has to be seen on the big screen.
