Synopsis :

UN CERTAIN REGARD AWARD FOR BEST ACTRESS AT CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2012

How could a couple so in love be the origin of such an out-of-control tragedy? Our Children is based on a spine-chil- ling true story, but Joachim Lafosse doesn’t give us the police procedural version. No one character or event seems to be the trigger. In fact, the film’s great strength lies in its incredibly subtle depiction of a slow downward spiral. More than a mere via dolorosa, Our Children is a dizzying exploration of the abyss between people. The calamity is impossible to see coming, but by the time we realize what’s happening, it’s already too late. The film is so deeply immersive that we end up forgetting how much every scene and every shot imprisons the viewer along with the woman. In the role of the forlorn and isolated mother, Émilie Dequenne delivers a consummate, unforgettable performance. Long after the credits roll, her final words, dreadful in their loneliness, still resonate.
