Synopsis :

A study of the differences between men and women, the past and the future, rural roots and urban living, and even construction sites and the world of music. Worlds collide when Dirceu, an aristocratic playboy working in demolition in Recife, Brazil, meets Marie, a sparkling, young music student from a poor family. They both come from the same rural region, and their love story exposes a nostalgic yearning for another place and time when people lived closer to the land. A cross between a ballad, a film noir and a cinematic essay, Good Luck, Sweetheart recently played at the Locarno Film Festival, where it won a jury prize in the Filmmakers of the Present competition thanks to the depth of its vision and its mastery of craft. Daniel Aragao was inspired by his own family roots and by the gradual disappearance of a simpler way of life in the Brazilian countryside. The film relies on high-contrast black and white images and a haunting soundtrack to create a mood that’s sensual, poetic and melancholic.
